My patients often ask how much fat can be removed during their liposuction surgery. The limit of fat removal allowed by law in Florida within a 24-hour period is four liters (about a gallon) for liposuction when liposuction is the only procedure, and one liter (about a quart) when liposuction is combined with another procedure such as a tummy tuck. The amount removed will, of course, depend on your needs as well.
Liposuction is not a replacement for weight loss, rather it is for contouring trouble spots on the body that you have not been able to reduce by diet and exercise. Liposuction is not about removing pounds of fat, rather it is about shape change. Surprisingly, a person’s weight is likely to remain the same before and after surgery.
Optimal liposuction results are achieved by individuals who are at or near their ideal weight and have a BMI in a normal range. If your BMI is 30 or under, I think you can be a good candidate.
