If you find your sagging eyelids and under eye bags are making you look older than you are, or it is hard to put on make-up because the skin gets in the way, it may be time for an eyelid lift (Blepharoplasty). Upper and/or lower eyelid lifts can refresh your appearance, restore firmness of the skin around the eyes, and erase years!
There are two main reasons for an eyelid lift. First, age, which reduces eyelid skin and tissue elasticity. Second, some individuals have simply inherited poor tissue tone.
An upper eyelid lift involves an incision where the skin naturally folds in the upper eyelid, allowing the removal of excess skin. A lower eyelid lift involves either an incision directly below the lash line, or on the inside of the eyelid (to avoid the appearance of scarring). In either case, fatty tissue can then either be removed or redistributed if necessary, and tightening of the eyelid can be conducted to correct skin sagging.
Generally, an eyelid lift is a one- to three-hour procedure. An upper blepharoplasty can be conducted in Dr. Singer’s operating room under local anesthesia. A lower blepharoplasty or a combination of an upper and lower blepharoplasty are conducted in a surgical center or hospital (usually under general anesthesia).
While heredity, skin elasticity, and aging impact the duration of results from an eyelid lift, patients who have had an eyelid lift find the results can last several years to indefinitely.
